It's the Great Pumpkin, Chase Brown
My favorite cartoon when I was a kid was Peanuts. I loved all the characters. Actually, I still love it. One of my favorite Peanuts' holiday specials is, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. The plot is about the Peanuts gang celebrating Halloween. Linus writes and sends a letter addressed to the Great Pumpkin, despite being ridiculed by his older sister, Lucy, and most of the Peanuts gang. Linus believes the Great Pumpkin will come to the pumpkin patch that has the most sincerity and give toys to all the good boys and girls.
He convinces Charlie Brown’s younger sister, Sally, to bypass going trick-or-treating and stay with him. Meanwhile Charlie Brown celebrates Halloween the more traditional way, by going trick-or-treating with the others. Unfortunately, while the other kids receive candy, gum, and other snacks, Charlie Brown only receives rocks.
Halloween doesn’t go any better for Linus who ends up being wrong. The Great Pumpkin never shows, which draws the ire of Sally who yells that she was a fool for trusting a blockhead like him. She’s upset that she missed out on getting tricks or treats. She screams that she should sue him for damages.
Well, that Charlie Brown holiday special sounds a lot like some of my fantasy sleepers who turned into pumpkins. Even when I took the traditional route with similar predictions that other fantasy analysts made, I still got some rocks this season.
QB Justin Fields
The Jets were a total disaster this year. Despite an improved line, Justin couldn’t get things going. He eventually lost his starting job to veteran backup, Tyrod Taylor.
RB Ashton Jeanty
Jeanty’s talent is still there, but the Raiders’ line is horrific. They’re even worse than I thought. Perhaps even more frightening is their defense. Many times, they were forced to abandon the run, which hurt Jeanty’s opportunities. The Raiders inability to score touchdowns was another roll of the dice that came up snake eyes for me.
RB Kaleb Johnson
I knew Kaleb was a work in progress in the passing game. He needs to improve his pass blocking. What I didn’t see coming was his struggle at running the ball. Once he got himself in Mike Tomlin’s doghouse, he never got out.
R.J. Harvey
The Broncos selected Harvey in the second round of the draft, so naturally I thought they’d use him. Well, so much for that theory. I guess this is a redshirt year, but it would have been nice to know that back in August. Harvey has been a major disappointment.
Travis Hunter
There was always a question with how much the Jaguars would use their talented rookie on offense? Unfortunately, the answer was not much at all. Even before his injury, Hunter wasn’t used enough on offense to make a fantasy impact. I still believe in his talent, but just like Linus, my readers are calling me a blockhead!
Marvin Harrison Jr.
Charlie Brown got rocks, I got Marvin Harrison Jr. The crazy thing is, I still think Marvin is pretty good. Maybe that makes me a blockhead like Linus, who believes in the Great Pumpkin? I blame the idiotic Cardinals. I’m not sure if it’s Kyler Murray or their coaching staff, but Marvin should have done much better this season. Just wait until next year. You’ll see. The Great Pumpkin, I mean Marvin Harrison Jr. will come and bring treats to all of the good fantasy drafters out there!
