2026 What I’ve Learned- AFC South

We’re about a third of the way through the fantasy regular season, here’s what I’ve learned so far in the AFC South.

AFC South
Jacksonville
Trevor Lawrence is having another great year.  He’s currently the 3rd highest scoring QB…..At RB, one of my sleepers seems to be hitting his stride.  Bhayshul Tuten had a big game against a tough Texans’ defense.  Tuten is the 14th best RB and is making owners who spent a 4th or 5th round pick on the lightning quick RB look smart…...At WR, the hype surrounding Parker Washington this summer was warranted.  Parker has been Trevor’s go-to-guy.  Washington is currently the 9th highest scoring WR in Half-Point PPR.  However, things haven’t been as good for Brian Thomas Jr. owners.  There’s an old saying in the stock market…don’t catch a falling knife.  After a brutal 2025 season, Thomas Jr.’s stock slipped this past summer, and many fantasy owners thought they were getting a bargain.  It turns out there was no such sale.  Thomas has struggled mightily and saw his snap count decrease to 21% in week 6.  Don’t be shocked if the Jaguars trade Thomas Jr. before the trade deadline.......At TE, Brenton Strange is quietly having a solid season.  He’s currently the 11th best TE in Half-Point PPR.  One thing that’s not strange is our very own writer, Jefferson, enjoying this season.  Jefferson is a die-hard Jaguars’ fan.  His Jaguars are sitting atop the AFC South looking to make another strong run in the playoffs.

Indianapolis
Well, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.  The late Jim Irsay wasn’t known for his patience regarding high expectations for his beloved Colts.  His daughters are no exception.  GM Chris Ballard was fired.  The rumor is that they’ve already reached out to former Colts’ legend Peyton Manning to see if he’d be interested in the GM role with an ownership stake as a sweetener.  On the football field, Daniel Jones hasn’t had the same success as he did in 2025. Jones has struggled with only 5 TDs on the season.  The bright spot has been at RB where Jonathan Taylor has been his usual great self.   Our very own writer Mack is happy to see that.  Mack is a die-hard Badgers fan and Taylor is one of the Badgers most talented alums….At WR, there’s been little to get excited about.  Alec Pierce signed a big contract, but he’s been shelved with his left heel/ankle injury.  I was out on Pierce.  I read some concerning health reports over the summer and thought there was a very real chance he’d miss time.  The other WRs have been non-factors……At TE, Tyler Warren is having another solid year.  Warren is currently the 6th highest scoring TE in Half-Point PPR….At kicker, Spencer Shrader is shredding the competition.  After six weeks, Shrader is the top kicker.

Houston
In a make-or-break year for C.J. Stroud, C.J. is making it.  The young gunslinger has been steady with 10 TDs through the first six weeks….At RB, except for week one where he scored 3 TDs, David Montgomery has not had the same success that he did in Detroit.   Monty has been a disappointment for fantasy owners who burned a 4th round pick on him.  Woody Marks is showing better burst.  He might be a factor as the season rolls on…..At WR, injuries have plagued the Texans, but reinforcements are on the way.  Nico Collins is the star.  Collins missed some time with a hamstring injury, but he’s back now.  Unfortunately, Jayden Higgins tore his ACL and is out for the season.  Higgins was having a good camp.  The good news is that Tank Dell is set to return.  Dell suffered a gruesome knee injury in 2024, which some feared could be career ending.  It’s unclear if he’ll have the same burst or will be able to hold up, but at least he’s back.  The big news was the Texans trade for Marvin Harrison Jr.  For whatever reason, Harrison Jr. didn’t pan out in Arizona.  I still believe in him.  Don’t be surprised if Marvin finds his stride in Houston.  The pressure will be off, and he’s reunited with his former college teammate, C.J. Stroud.  Both played for Ohio State so it shouldn’t take long for them to get their timing down….At TE, Dalton Schultz has been mostly quiet while at kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn is having another great season.  Fairbairn is currently the 3rd highest scoring kicker.

Tennessee
The movie might be called “Remember the Titans”, but there’s not much to remember with this bunch. One of my strategies was to avoid Titans’ players this year.  That’s turned out to be a wise decision.  Cam Ward has struggled much of the year.  The former top pick is getting close to bust territory.  At RB, it’s not much better.  Tony Pollard has scored only 1 TD on the year.  That’s not going to cut it for fantasy owners who drafted Pollard in the middle rounds hoping he’d be a value pick…..At WR, Carnell Tate went higher than I thought in drafts.  Tate struggled in the summer.  He’s had two good games, but four lackluster ones. I thought when Tate came out of college, he was good, but not a star.  Wan'Dale Robinson has done even worse.  There’s only so much they can do with a struggling QB and that doesn’t appear to be changing for the better anytime soon.
